THE FOUNDING STORY
From one storytelling app to family memory infrastructure.
Leaves was founded by Michael O’Donnell, a serial entrepreneur, family historian, and curator of life stories. Michael was motivated to use his tech training and expertise to build a safe home for family stories and artifacts after losing his heritage in Hurricane Katrina. His vision grew from the original Times of My Life® app into the broader Leaves Family Heritage Hub™.
In the earliest chapter, Anthony Phills contributed the original design vision for Times of My Life. His creative work helped shape the beginning of the project and remains an appreciated part of the company’s origin story.

Leaves is a Public Benefit Corporation building private, secure family heritage infrastructure designed to serve families for generations. We prioritize preservation over profit.
Yes—but not in the traditional public sense. Leaves is a private family network: a secure space to share memories, preserve stories, and stay connected across generations without followers, public algorithms, or advertising.
Within the Leaves platform of apps, AI is a tool, not an independent, self-directed agent. AI functions have no autonomy whatsoever. The functions that use AI are always human directed and controlled. All the various tasks that AI can assist with can be reviewed and edited as desired by users. For example, after drafting a story based on the user's memories and inputs, the user can edit the narrative and change the tone and style of the story before it is shared with others.
Leaves is designed around lifetime memberships, family media storage, credits, and optional premium services. We do not sell ads or user data.
Your family’s heritage should never disappear because no one is paying a bill. Under The Leaves Heritage Continuity Promise, Leaves will not delete a family’s heritage simply because a membership expires, a Hub becomes inactive, or the family can no longer afford to maintain it. Inactive Hubs can be moved into long-term preservation storage, where the family’s stories, voices, photos, videos, documents, and other heritage content can remain preserved without the cost of keeping the full Hub active. A future generation can later verify its connection to the family, reactivate the Hub, and bring that heritage back online. Long-term preservation of inactive Hubs is also intended to be supported by a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping protect family heritage for future generations. Certain legal, privacy, security, or owner-requested deletion requirements may still apply. But inability to pay will never, by itself, be a reason for Leaves to erase your family’s heritage.
